I, Nebulon the almighty have recently returned from a secret mission to the gamma sector, but rest assured I am now ready to continue my eternal vigil on the people of earth.
As a keen fan of the original TDTESS, Nebulon is inclined to shun any attempt at a remake. Why fix what isn’t broken. Never the less, despite what you may have read in reviews by lesser species, this remake starring Keanu Reeves and the very spankable Jennifer Connelly is worth watching, if only to have the fun of working out what they kept in and what they ditched. Personally, Nebulon feels that it lacks the subtlety of the original, as well as the iconic visage of the saucer landing outside the white house. However, everything in the remake is much more dramatic, instead of merely making the earth stand still as in the original, Gort unleashes a deadly wave of death over the Earth.
Mu ha ha ha ha ha ha. Excellent.
So it is not as good as the original. That much is obvious. That much was obvious from the trailer. But thanks to it’s laudable heritage this movie does stand a few inches taller than your standard Blockbuster fare. If all you’ve seen of the original is that 2 second exert in Independence Day then you can go and see this with a relatively low risk of raging. If you have a scale model of the original Gort in you’re bedroom however then you might have to take this one with a pinch of salt and grit your teeth some what as the subtlety of the original gives way to blockbuster bombast.
Nebulon must now sign off and discuss with his robot henchman Kang plans for Earth Invasion. Kang could learn a lot from the new, ultra aggressive Gort.
